Create a live stream with YouTube Studio

Once upon a time there was the YouTube Live Dashboard and we wrote this tutorial on how to use it with CamON Live Streaming to go live. Well, things change quickly nowadays and that platform moved to the newer Live Control Room that then became the brand new YouTube Studio. Let's see how it works.

YouTube limitations

As a YouTube rule, to live stream on mobile, you need at least 1,000 subscribers. That's true when using the YouTube app, but you can overcome this limitation by using CamON Live Streaming as an encoder.

Enable live streaming

To live stream, you need to have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and you need to verify your channel.

From a computer (the platform doesn't run smoothly on mobile)

  1. Go to YouTube.
  2. From the top right, click Create and thenGo live.
  3. If you haven't already, follow the prompts to verify your channel.
  4. Enabling your first live stream may take up to 24 hours. Once enabled, you can live stream instantly.

Enable the plugin

  1. Open CamON Live Streaming app.
  2. Go to Live streaming settings.
  3. Enable the plugin.
  4. To troubleshoot the connection, also enable Display log messages.
  5. Exit settings and go back to the main app screen.

Start live streaming now

First, create a stream

  1. Go to YouTube Studio.
  2. From the top right, click Go Live   to open Live Control Room.
  3. Click the Stream tab.
  4. If this is your first live stream: edit your stream and click Create stream.
If you’ve live streamed before: your previous stream settings will load and can be changed if necessary

Next, connect your stream to CamON Live Streaming, and then go live

  1. Open CamON Live Streaming app.
  2. Tap on the YouTube icon from the toolbar to fetch the list of the active live events.
Tap on the account icon to select a different account.
Swipe the screen to refresh the list if you are changing something from YouTube Studio meanwhile.
  3. Select the event you are interested in from the list and the associated Server URL and Stream key will be selected.
  4. Tap on the Play icon in the bottom right corner to start streaming. A watch page is now created for your stream and you are now live on YouTube. Notifications will be sent and your stream will show up in subscriber feeds.
  5. To end the stream, tap on the Pause icon in the bottom right corner. All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived. You can access previous, current, and upcoming streams in the Live Tab on your YouTube Studio dashboard.
